What is SGW, en what is the non-recyclable share? Verduidelijken D-coded waste (ref), slaat het hier enkel op hazardous SGW (werking schip, ladinggresten)?
The share of non-recyclable SGW as a output marker tells something about ...
It relies on a coding system which might not be ideal for the given context. Secondly, the assumption is made that all recyclable waste is actually recycled, while (in practice) this may not be always the case.
The count is restricted to the port area, a legally defined territory which is under the management of the Port Authority (PA) or Port Management Body (PMB). For example, the boundaries of the Flemish ports are determined by a decision of the Flemish Government.
The literature on this issue is outdated and does not reflect new developments in waste handling and treatment of SGW. Better information on the amount of waste generated during a voyage, the waste management practices on-board of ships and on the amount of waste discharged in ports, would help regulators, ports and waste handlers plan for the reception and delivery of waste.
