Circular Flanders

Who we are

Circular Flanders is the hub, the inspiration and the matchmaker for the Flemish circular economy. It is a partnership of governments, business and industry, civil society, and the knowledge community taking action together.

Our story - As a successor to Plan C (2006-2012, 2012-2016) and the Flemish Materials Program (2011-2016), Circular Flanders has been appointed in 2017 by the Flemish Government to continue and support the circular economy as a region-wide transition priority. The current Flemish Government (2019-2024) confirmed this assignment and expressed the ambition to make Flanders a circular frontrunner by decoupling the material footprint of our consumption from economic growth and reducing it by 30 % by 2030.

How we work

At Circular Flanders, we realize that ‘the only thing that never changes is that everything changes’.  A premise of collective impact for change is that not all problems are created in the same way - some are simple, some are more complicated and some are really complex. Each type requires a different approach to solving them.

“Collective impact efforts are most effective when they build from what already exists; honoring current efforts and engaging established organizations, rather than creating an entirely new solution from scratch”

About this website

Circular Flanders

We are continuously developing and improving this site to position it as the go-to source for the circular economy and ports.

What we offer

At Circular Flanders, we do not have the ambition to be all-encompassing or to replace what the port community is already doing. We provide in the first place practioners with a useful selection of actionable insights and tools to support their journey to a circular future. We don't have all the answers either, but create a context to learn, do and find solutions.

The website focuses on the Flemish and Delta port region. But the port community is pre-eminently international, so we all have an interest in working together within the port, between ports, but also across borders. We therefore communicate in English.

What you can do

You, as an interested party, dedicated circular and/or port professional, policy maker or researcher, can help us to continuously improve our offer.

But you can also support us in the first place by helping spread the word! This means doing things like: showing the website to your colleagues, staff and peers, sharing posts on social media, referencing to reports, posts and tools on forums you take part in, etc. And if you have a website of your own, placing a link to Circular Ports would be a big help.
