New market opportunities for European ship recycling yards and related companies

As more rules are introduced in this area, a further growth in high-end offerings in developed economies and an upgrade process to a mid-range level for some of the yards in South Asia are expected. As a general result, part of the industry is believed to move from Asia to Europe and thus create new market opportunities for European ship recycling yards and related companies (e.g. recycling companies, waste handling companies, scrap dealers) that can comply with the strengthened requirements. The European maritime industry would have the potential to benefit from this development and generate jobs and income, while at the same time raise safety standards and meet the increasingly complex sustainability requirements.
